Polytechnic Rector Flays Unbridled Award

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Dr. Joseph Oke has decried what he described as the indiscriminate award of honorary doctorate degrees and Fellowships by Nigerian universities and polytechnics to undeserving people for material gains. He made the condemnation at a news conference to herald activities marking the 7th convocation ceremony of the institution.

The Rector also spoke on why the institution is not giving any honorary fellowship award during this year’s convocation.

“We decided not to give any fellowship award this year because we felt that ideally, awards of fellowship should only be given to people who have made contributions in their chosen careers to national development,” he added.

Giving the breakdown of students, who will be issued certificates, Oke said out of 1,929 graduating students, 1,102 would be issued are Ordinary National Diploma certificates while the remaining 827 would be issued Higher National Diploma certificates.

He said the institution has made some technological breakthroughs in research, and that such researches include dust particle counter , which is good in detecting favourable or otherwise the air at a particular location is.
